Scritta da: Silvana Stremiz
Except to Heaven, she is nought.
Except for Angels - lone.
Except to some wide-wandering Bee
A flower superfluous blown.
Except for winds - provincial.
Except by Butterflies
Unnoticed as a single dew
That on the Acre lies.

The smallest Housewife in the grass,
Yet take her from the Lawn
And somebody has lost the face
That made Existence - Home.

The Sun kept stooping - stooping - low!
The Hills to meet him rose!
    On his side, what Transaction!
    On their side, what Repose!
Deeper and deeper grew the stain
    Upon the window pane -
Thicker and thicker stood the feet
    Until the Tyrian

Was crowded dense with Armies -
    So gay, so Brigadier -
    That I felt martial stirrings
Who once the Cockade wore -

Charged, from my chimney Corner -
    But Nobody was there!

Heart, not so heavy as mine
      Wending late home -
      As it passed my window
      Whistled itself a tune -
      A careless snatch - a ballad -
A Ditty of the street -
      Yet to my irritated ear
      An anodyne so sweet -

It was as if a Bobolink
      Sauntering this way
Carolled and mused, and carolled -
      Then bubbled slow away -

It was as if a chirping brook
      Upon a toilsome way
      Set bleeding feet to minuets
      Without the knowing why -

Tomorrow - night will come again -
Perhaps - tired and sore -
      Oh Bugle, by the window
I pray you stroll once more!
